Today, we went into the bowels of New Jersey to look for this Japanese supermarket called Mitsuwa Marketplace. It's a really cool shopping destination for Japanese goods like grocery, foods, and books. It was a bit of a misadventure getting there as we don't have a car and relied on public transportation and our legs. Of course, after getting there, we realize that it was easier to get to than we originally started off with.
There's actually a shuttle bus from NYC that takes you directly to Mitsuwa Marketplace from Port Authority. But for those of you who liked to get there from Jersey City, here are the directions.
Take the New Jersey Lightrail towards Tonnelle Avenue but get off at Port Imperial Ferry and catch the NJ Transit Bus #158. Ask the bus driver to drop you off at Mitsuwa Marketplace. Please note that you have to have cash to get on the bus. I think you can get a ticket that serves both the Lightrail and bus at a discounted price.
I took some pictures while waiting for the NJ Lightrail heading back to Jersey City. We were right across the street from midtown. You can see the Empire State Building!
