It's New Year's Eve and it's snowing! I don't remember when the last time it snowed on New Year's Eve. Last year? Anyways, here are my last set of pictures for the year of 2008.

I was at the corner of Prince and Sullivan when I noticed some pretty lights in a dark window. I then realized that corner housed a church of some kind. Oh, this happened at night...

I was at Union Square and the outdoor Holiday market was being dismantled. A sure sign that Christmas is over. It was a relatively warm day too. The birds were out and about looking for food and feasting on whatever was on the lawn.
The lady with blue hair is my favorite picture of the day!

I hope everyone had a pleasant Christmas or holiday gathering. It's the day after Christmas and I went to return a few things I bought but never gave out. Also, I bought a book for my mom as a Christmas present but it turned out she picked up a copy of the book already. Oh well.
Anyway, I made the returns at the Barnes and Noble in Tribeca. The same building as the Whole Foods in Tribeca. When I left to head down to the PATH station, I noticed across the street a sign for monthly UNLIMITED sun tanning at $80! Who the hell needs that many tannings in a month?!

Just days before Christmas and people are still shopping and getting last minute gifts and taking advantage of last minute sales. It was a busy day at Union Square. The outdoor shops were full of people looking and buying. We also had a bit of snow fall too.

It rained on and off today. It seemed like another Saturday until I was down by City Hall. I was on the M6 bus when I noticed a huge protest gathering outside the gates of City Hall. They were protesting against Proposition 8 - banning gay marriage. As you know, it is the current controversy after the elections.

It's autumn and the leaves are turning colors and falling from the branches. There are lots of pretty leaves and I remember when I was a young child I would pick up the colorful leaves of autumn. Of course, they didn't last very long or were eventually thrown out at my mother's insistence.
And when I walked to the train station to go home, I know noticed bright lights - they were filming I don't know what.

It was a brisk Sunday in Jersey City. We walked up Christopher Columbus Drive from the PATH station at Exchange Place. On the pavement are prints of fallen leaves. The prints were created as a natural stain when leaves fell to the pavement due to heavy rainfall. The wet leaves remained until someone brushed it aside or they dried up and blew away with the wind. The prints are pretty cool.

Went shopping in the Farmer's Market for some vegetables at Union Square. We got some carrots. But then one in particular caught my eyes. At first, I saw that it had two legs and then I noticed it had a nub between his legs too. A carrot with legs and a penis? You wouldn't believe me if I told you which is why I took pictures. And then when I brought it home and was preparing to cook the carrot, I noticed he had a tail too! See for yourself...

Had dinner at a restaurant called Peasant in Soho. The restaurant is on Elizabeth Street. Peasant serves comfort Italian food. Prices are a bit pricey. The starters and main courses are great. I ordered the special starter, which was the rabbit livers over creamy polenta and wild mushrooms. The livers were a bit on the dry side but good. For the main course, I got the Osso Buco served with barley. The dessert was not up to par with the savory dishes. I ordered the peach tart but was served the pear tart. Apparently, the dessert menu had a typo. In any case, it was huge! It was enough to feed three people. The tart was also served with a scoop of hazelnut ice cream.

Well, as you know it's October and October means Halloween. The costume shops have been open since September. Homes are preparing to look haunted and scary. I was in the city this evening. I looked up and saw in the window these lit of pumpkins. I thought it was pretty cool.
Sorry the pictures are a bit small. I was on the street looking up, and trying to keep myself from getting run over by taxis. This was taken at the corner of 14th Street and 6th Avenue, righ above the Urban Outfitters store.

I am cleaning up on Memorial Day while everyone else is spending their last day of summer at the beach. I finally got around to opening these freebie gifts called Sonny Angel. I don't know what is or who is Sonny Angel. Google search did not provide me an official information other than places where you can buy them, or blogs that discussed this product.
These guys are part of the kawaii craze exploding out of Japan and spreading all over Asia. I don't think they are cute. I don't know how long I am going to keep these guys?

Thomas wanted to explore a part of Jersey CIty that he saw on the New Jersey Lightrail map. There is a park called LIncoln Square Park. So we took the Lightrail to West Side Avenue and walked about 10 minutes to the park. There was an outdoor barbque party going on when we got there. We kept on walking towards the man-made pond. Then we continued to walk, crossing a bridge to the other side to more park land. There was a lake where some people were fishing. The park was the prettiest park we've been to but it was nice to get out and explore.

We were in Central Park to go for a ride in the row boats. It was a humid day - surprisingly. The weather has been really pleasant - not humid.
The Park was full of people today - also surprised. I thought people would have left for the long weekend. The lake was especially crowded. There were many inexperienced rowers in the lake getting in our way or seconds from ramming into us. Luckily, Thomas is very experienced and out maneuvered these wanna-be rowers.
The lake was also very green. Some of it was algae, and there was something else in the water. Little leafy things. We didn't know what they were but it almost covered the lake. I thought they were kind of pretty until we rowed into a part of the lake that had a heavy layer of these teeny leafy things. It made the lake look kind of swampy.

I really like this building which used to be a former New York City police station. It has not been converted to some high end luxury residence. Not too far away is a bar that used to be a speak-easy and supposedly there is a tunnel that connected to the police station.
Below are some statues of lions found in Chinatown. These lions are always displayed in pairs. One lion is always playing with cubs while the other lion plays with a ball.

I was walking to work down on Lafayette Street when from the sky I saw a beautiful teal colored bird. At first, I thought maybe it was a blue jay. But when i got closer, i noticed it was an exotic parrot of some kind. It must have been someone's pet that flew the coup. the bird is real smart and i knew he could see me. It reacted quite intelligently unlike some of the other "wild" or "city" birds flapping around.
I hope I see it again tomorrow.

Today was an event filled day. In Union Square, there was a free concert featuring a Japanese R&B singer. The show was sponsored by PaPa Joe. I don't know who he is but his name was advertised. The singer's name is Yumi (I think that is the spelling) and you can see the name of the band or group on the banner.
Then in Jersey City, they were having their Puerto Rican Day celebration down by Exchange Place. Lots of people with live music, food, raffles, and stalls selling PR pride products.
We then walked along the water's edge in Jersey City to Pavonia Newport, to explore it.

We went to Mitsuwa Marketplace today for the Summer Festival.
The Summer Festival was in full swing when we finally arrived. In fact, two Japanese ladies were in their kimonos got on the bus heading to Mitsuwa. There were people of varied ethnicities enjoying the fair. Children crowded the game stalls especially the stall with the live goldfishes! There was a game that awarded prizes for travel like plane tickets by spinning a wheel. The wheel offered prizes for all participants so there were no losers. It was only $2 to spin the wheel.

We went to Governor's Island on Sunday for a picnic. It was a nice day to visit. GI is a pretty island and definitely worth a visit. The ferry ride is free and you lots of places to picnic. There were many people who took their bikes over to ride around. There is also mini golf. The admission was by donation. It was fun. In fact, one of the NYC Waterfalls is right by the docks of the ferry on Governor's Island.

Earlier today before I met up with my friend I was on LaGuardia Place where there was an odd art installation. I had taken a picture of this thing (that resembles a hollowed out golf ball) before but from a distance while they were still putting it up. Well, this time, I took pictures from inside it.

Another hot day although not as humid. Today was also the gay pride parade. I didn't get a chance to check it out. It would have been nice to have took some flamboyant pictures. Instead, I only have two pictures of snails that were taking their evening sluggish crawl across the stone paving to the house. It rained heavily with thunderstorms today.
They're getting big so fast! We've also had some casualties. I have found a couple of crushed snail shells. I guess they didn't see them.

It was a hot and humid day. I thought I was wearing appropriate summer clothes but I managed to sweat in what i was wearing, a white cotton linen dress. This collection of pictures is all about commuting at night in Queens. Some of the pictures are in black and white because I was experimenting with aperture and exposure - it's really fun to experiment. I also enjoyed taking color pictures from inside the bus. The results of the pictures has a gritty New York feeling to it that reminds me of the 70's or 80's. Well, I hope you enjoy!

Saturday was a really nice day. Bright and sunny and not humid. Ah! It was really nice. I was by La Guardia Place to run an errand and came upon what I assumed was an art installation. It looked like a hollowed out golf ball. It looked nice a bright and white with shaded trees in the foreground. And I took pictures of flowers. I then headed over to Jersey City where I noticed that the board walk and pier that they have been constructing is almost complete. It's is going to be a really nice open public space!

Walked by the garden along La Guardia Place. The bees and other bugs were out and about. Took some pictures of them in action. I found a couple of bees wresting each other in a petal of rose. It was pretty intense. I couldn't capture it on video because I wasn't close enough so I took pictures instead. I also took some pictures from the hip of people. I got a few good ones.
I also took a couple of videos of a bee on a flower and a fly on a flower. The video quality isn't great but it should be fine.

We went to dinner at Apizz, an Italian restaurant in the Lower East Side. The food was tasty and very filling. The interior was dark and cozy; I don't mean it was small. They have a wood burning oven where they do most of their cooking.
This was a very tasty dessert, reminds me of almond pudding served in Chinese restaurants during dim sum.

I got my $600 dollars from the Feds today! The check actually says, "2008 Economic Stimulus Payment". Does the government honestly think this is going to bolster the economy? I guess we'll wait and see what gets reported.
My cousin got married today so this evening we went to their wedding banquet. It was raining all night. Luckily, the banquet was indoors but getting home was not easy. There was traffic due to flooding on the highway and when we decided to take an alternate route, we hit another traffic caused by a car accident. I took some pictures of the accident as we tried to make our way past the accident.

I've been shooting my pictures with my Sony CD-Mavica MVC- CD400; my first digital camera. I can tell that the quality isn't as good as the Panasonic DMC-TZ3 that I've been using but had to return to my boyfriend...I've been borrowing it for almost a year! In fact, the pictures posted June 8, 2008 was shot with the Sony, too.
Today was another hot day in the city though not as humid as this past weekend. I took a medley of pictures. We have a few flowers today and people pictures. Most were shot from the hip. My Sony has the over the neck strap so my camera was hanging down on my left hip. I thought those were some interesting shots. You'll have to excuse the yellowness of those pictures. The Sony was set for sunny outdoor picture taking. I didn't adjust it when I was underground...oops.
And then on the way home, I was casually holding my camera and trying to take pictures of people as they walked towards me but instead, I took pictures of buildings - odd!
Well, I hope you enjoy them.

We spent the day in Central Park, rowing the boat in the lake. The park is making some cosmetic changes to the lake surroundings. They're adding more flowering plants and lush vegetation. They're also expanding the lake too.

It rained and from the looks of it, it was a pretty big rain storm. Luckily, I was underground riding the "E" train home. We went to the Museum of Modern Art this evening. If you didn't already know, it's always free admission Friday evenings from 4pm to 8pm. We were going there to check out an exhibit but realized when we got there that the show was over so we just went around to look at the current exhibit and permanent collection. The thing I noticed is that MoMA is one of the few museums to let people take pictures of the collection. Everyone had their cameras and snapping pictures. Nobody used flash which is good for the art collection. Anyway, take a look at the what I saw today at MoMA.

Only three things caught my attention. One was a couch designed by Jean Nouvel's SKiN sofa manufactured by Molteni & C. The second was a chair manufactured by Kartell called "Mr. Impossible" by Phillipe Stark. The third was a giant chair at the School of Visual Arts booth.
