March 24, 2008 - Miso Hungry 5

Today for lunch I had the grilled shrimp over a bed of mixed greens and it was delicious! And for dessert, I had a red bean mochi! I love mochi. So squishy and soft.

Today was Easter. Thomas and I headed down to Pennsylvania to see his family and have dinner at his sister's. Whenever we go down to PA, I insist that we spend some time in Philadelphia. I really like the city. It's quaint but still urban. They have some great restaurants and an awesome place for homemade gelato and sorbetto, Capogiro. We always make a stop for some sweet treats before we head into the suburbs of Philly to see his family. Today, Thomas chose two flavors in a small cup; cilantro lime (one of my fav's) and cinnamon. I only had one flavor on a cone, Thai Coconut Milk - and it was gooood! I usually get the three scoop cup!

For lunch we headed over to a funky restaurant called Continental at the Mid-town location. Great interior space and the food was good and well priced. I had a Sunday brunch beverage, a champagne martini! You got to visit their website. It's as funky and fun as the restaurant. For the website, click here.

At Thom's sister's place, I took some pictures of a collection of seashells. I thought they were so pretty. I really like the green one, which I assume used to be a sea urchin of some kind.

Never a dull moment in Union Square. Apparently there was a protest happening. The protestors were gathered on the sidewalk behind barricade fencing. The were all holding up signs. Most that I saw were about peace, and no war in Iran, and of course, no anti-war protest is without criticism of our President Bush. I think I also saw protest for teachers' union, too. Here are some pictures of the protestors. I will upload some videos I took about their cause and message.

I was returning to the office from the Whole Foods on Bowery. I walked up Bowery and took some interesting shots of bargain hunters in front of this clothing store.

I continued up the Bowery and came upon a couple of renovation jobs. One at a restaurant, Mannahatta, which I have wanted to dine at and now may have missed my opportunity.

I then walked down Bond Street where there are couple of new residential building built. One of which is designed by famous European architects, Herzog and de Meuron. The residential building is 40 Bond Street and spearheaded by famous hotelier, Ian Schrager.

For a closer view of some of these great works of architecture, check out the photo album.

March 20, 2008 - Miso Hungry 4 More!

The day was not best but not the worse. I was walking down LaGuardia Place and passed the public garden and some birds were hanging out. Doves and sparrows.

Lunch was grilled chicken over a bed of greens! Real delicious! Check it out!

March 19, 2008 - Miso Hungry 3

It was a rainy day today and cold! Not a great day to take pictures. I saw a couple on the train platform sitting atop of the dumpster. I don't understand how anyone can sit on something that contains garbage. In any case, I went to my favorite Japanese market for lunch. I got there late and so the salads were all taken. I settled for a rice lunch called Oyakodon. I can never finish these hot box lunches. The salads are perfect for me. I'll have to remember to take some pictures of the salad.

I was in Soho today. It was a nice day. It wasn't too cold. I walked around a bit before heading over to Jersey City. I took some architectural pictures today. One is the Soho residential building designed Jean Nouvel! It's not as impressive as his other buildings in Paris and the restr of the world but I am impressed that NYC has a Jean Nouvel designed building.

For more information about the residential building, click here for the New York Times article. And another article from New York Magazine, click here. To learn more about Jean Nouvel, check out his website, Ateliers Jean Nouvel. He's one of my favorite contemporary architects!

Afterwards, I went over to the Sunrise Market to pick up some lunch. I was walking on the opposite side of Broome Street from Broadway and looked up at the building where the Sunrise Market is and noticed the building itself. It was a very handsome looking building. It looked like a castle of sorts. And I just loved the ornate details of heads and gargoyle like creatures that dotted the building facade.

And you're always encouraged to visit the photo album for a closer look of any of the pictures.

I was walking back to the office when I noticed this lacy pattern on a Barbara Bui dress. Actually, it was the shadow that was casted on the mannequin's leg that caught my eye. I thought it was really pretty.

There was a film crew in the neighborhood near work. They are filming a Disney movie called "Confessions of a Shopaholic". For some more info, click here. It's actually based on a novel. For more information on the novel, click here. I didn't see anyone famous but I did take pictures of the trailers and camera crews.

It turned out to be a nice day - weather wise. I was dress comfortably - bundled in a nice chunky turtleneck sweater vest. I was having lunch with Thomas in Union Square at Republic. It was a good lunch of noodles! On the way back to the office, I noticed a man painting Union Square on a stretched canvas. I think he was painting on a cot. It looked really nice. He wears a kilt too, but I don't think he is of Scottish heritage. I think he's just eccentric.

After work, I rushed over to the Ink Pad, a cozy little store over in the West Village that sells rubber stamps and related merchandise for scrapbookers and people who like to create cards and other paper craft things. I really like the West Village. The neighborhood has a really nice vibe and nice brownstones. The neighborhood is also home to many boutique shops. I don't think there is a Starbucks around. Actually, there is on on 15th street and 8th Avenue but then again, that area begins to loose it's West Village charm.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy today's collection. And you can always get a closer look in the photo album.

It was a sunny day, warm in the sun but cold in the shadow. Captured some shots of people in Union Square and captured some interesting pictures in Jersey City during a pleasant walk of the neighborhood.

Not a picture today. Instead, a video clip of some construction work on Houston Street. I was heading over to the Whole Foods on Bowery when I heard this loud banging. Everyone was wondering what was going on. Then I saw this excavator hammering a +2" thick steel plate into the ground! It was a loud pounding sound that just resonated painfully into my ear canal.
This was the first time I used the video feature on the camera and that is why the movie ended with a few seconds of sidewalk. One of the construction crew was waving at me. I wasn't sure if he was waving at me to get my attention, (he had apparently noticed me "taking a picture" of them) or if I was not suppose to capture any of this on digital "film" and signaling me to stop.

I was heading back to the office when I saw this lady. She was wearing this fur jacket that was ripped at the sides and did you check out her footwear?! She was mackin' in her funky style.

Sorry for not skipping a couple of days of no blogging. I've been preoccupied and I must admit that the city did not inspire me to whip out my camera.

Today's collection are of cute furry and feathery creatures. I love cute animals!

Spring is upon us! I was walking through the farmer's market at Union Square. Look at these bright, colorful, and beautiful flowers! Gosh, I can't wait to start our balcony garden! For a closer look, click here for the photo album.
