February 27, 2008

Today was a rather hectic work day so I was so glad to step out during my lunch hour. It was a cold day but refreshing. I walked down LaGuardia Place where I could not resist taking pictures of the puffy sparrow hanging out a dried plant in the public garden. They were chirping happily. They are so cute, and so fluffy and they just looked so warm. They looked like tiny round women in their fur coats! And not too far were some doves hanging out on some rocks. They looked really cozy! As I approached down West Broadway, I noticed some flashing lights ahead. There were some firetrucks and a ladder stretching to the top of the building. There wasn't a fire but I don't know what the commotion was about. In any case, it was exciting to see firemen in action. I love the FDNY! Who doesn't?

Here are today's collections of pictures; a medley of things. A glass sculpture/chandelier by what I think is Chihuly. I happened onto a set where they were setting up a shoot. And a cute graffiti character.

February 22, 2008

The day started out like a winter wonderland. It was so nice to walk in fresh snow. I love walking in fresh snow, especially when it's a couple of inches thick. Of course as with most snowfalls in the city, the winter wonderland did not last very long. By lunch time, the snowing stopped and instead was replaced with a wet mist which helped in the snow's melting. Luckily, I had my trusty camera and did my best to preserve a brief moment in winter wonderland.

Not an eventful day. It was super chilly. I only took these last minute pictures just before my train arrived.

I've said it once, and I'll keep saying it. When you look up, you'll always see something that has always been there but never noticed. Take a look at some of these murals.

Sometimes you'll see something but it's just too far but your curiosity makes you wonder what goes on inside, like some of the penthouses I've captured.

Year of the Rat, 2008 - Red Envelopes

I scanned some of the red envelopes I received over the Chinese New Year. If you are familiar with the Chinese tradition, family and friends give each other red envelopes decorated with words of happiness and fortune, some with pictures, characters, dragons, and other symbols related to the celebration. These envelopes are stuffed with money. I won't be disclosing the amounts as that is not the point of this collection of pictures.

Today is President's Day and I'm home. I took some pictures of some of the house plants around the house.

No theme in today's pictures. I was happy that I was able to collect any today seeing as I haven't the couple of days - sorry about that. But I hope you enjoyed these pictures. If you want a closer look, just simply click on the slide show and it should redirect you to the photo album.

After a day of snow, we got a day of rain and thus all the snow quickly melted away.

It snowed today. I like the snow. Snow can make everything pretty. Of course, that doesn't last very long. At least, it does not last long in an urban environment. Take a look at the snow while it lasts.

January 10, 2008.

There was a brief and freakish snow storm this afternoon when we were in Jersey City. We looked out the we window at first, and I thought it looked really cloudy outside. It seemed like J.C. was covered in a thick fog. J.C. was instead being flurried with snow! It was the weirdest thing.

Then it stopped. The sun came out. Moments later, another flurry snow storm blanketed the sky! It stopped and the sun came out again! To say the least, the snow did not stick around.

February 9, 2008.

It was a crappy day today. It was cloudy, gray, cold, and wet. Despite it being a dreary day, I did manage to take a few pictures of some interesting things hanging out in Soho.

February 8, 2008.

I was having a good day. Had a morning meeting and it went very well. I was in a bit of high. I was okay with not taking pictures today if nothing caught my fancy. But then when I was returning to the office after picking up my lunch I saw a squirrel in a the tree infected with cancer in Washington Square Park. The squirrel was just chilling. It looked very cute.

At the end of the day while waiting for the next PATH train to Jersey City, I decided to try to take pictures of people. The pictures I captured of people were two tracks away. The telephoto lens of this Panasonic DMC-TZ3 camera is pretty impressive. Anyways, take a look at these commuters rushing to get home for a nice weekend.

And if you want a closer look at these people or the cute squirrel, please visit the photo album.

February 7, 2008

A fellow colleague told me about some snowboarding event that was taking place in Union Square. In fact, they had trucked in some snow to re-create the environment for the snowboarders to showcase their skills. I had to go check this out so I went during lunch time and there it was, various sports gear related vendors and sponsors were there setting up for the event. There was a stage that was testing their sound system, and guys boarding down the makeshift slopes. I couldn't get awesome shots due to some obstructions and the fact that I don't have a fancy camera to capture sporty action. But I hope you enjoy what I was able to capture. And if you want to view them in a larger format, check out the photo album.

I went to get a haircut today; well, a trim and tidying up. The salon is on East 4th Street and along the way to the salon, my eyes caught the attention of these neon signs.

February 5, 2008 - Miso hungry 2!

Even though was a crappy overcast day, it was a proud day for New Yorkers especially if you are a Giants fan. I headed out to lunch and noticed the groups of Giants fan walking uptown on Broadway. The parade revelers had dispersed from celebration and were wandering around the city. Check out the Giants fans. For lunch, I tried a new dish offered up at the Sunrise Market in Soho. I got this vegetable mix with ground pork meat. There were bell peppers, onions, and Japanese eggplant. It was tasty. It was kind of sweet and a bit spicy. Although I don't think I will get it again soon. It was a bit pricey for what it was, or maybe it isn't. I also had the corn potato croquet, and miso soup. And don't forget about the photo album.

February 3, 2008

It was a nice day today. Bright and not too cold. I was in Union Square heading over to Barnes & Noble. I noticed a beautifully detailed building between Blue Water Grill and Republic. It's decorated with Islamic and/or Venetian motifs - just incredibly detailed. Unfortunately, the building was being worked on so I the pictures I took are partially obstructed. Along with some of the things I took pictures of were water towers and a faded advertisement and graffiti on a truck. And if you want a closer look at the details, visit the photo album.

February 2, 2008 - Miso hungry!

The weather report said it was going to be sunny and 50 degrees. Well, it wasn't. It was chilly and overcast! Not a great day for picture taking. I went for lunch at my favorite Japanese market, Sunrise Market in Soho. I get a good and healthy lunch for about $5, more or less. I get a cup miso soup, a cup of edamame (soy beans), and a very tasty corn and potato croquet. Everything looked so delicious. I decided to take pictures of what I usually eat for lunch during the work week and share them with you. It was also an excuse to use the "food" feature of the camera. I have to say, that I am quite impressed.

Tell me that doesn't look appetizing! If you want a more mouthwatering closer look, visit the photo album, or better yet, visit the
Sunrise Market in Soho and try some of their great food offerings!

February 1, 2008

While the midwest was being blanketed with a heavy covering of snow, we here in the Big Apple was being doused wet with rain. There were umbrellas everywhere, some bright and colorful but most were black. Lots of puddles, some as big and as deep as oceans! I'm exaggerating...

And then there are rain drops clinging onto the tips of plants, not wanting to take that plunge.

You can also see these pictures today in the photo album.
